Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru – Episode 7

It’s 3 years later and Sakura has opened up a competing sweets shop called Hanagasumi in the same city as Kougetsu An, and starts to take customers away from Kougetsu An. What is Sakura’s plan? What will Sakura and Tsubaki do when they come face to face with each other after 3 years?

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • Hakusan, Ishikawa is a small city near the capital, Kanazawa.
  • Sweets
    • This episode’s sweets are all fall-themed. Harvest moon is fall themed, and the Boar mochi (亥の子餅) is also a sweet that’s usually sold in October/November time frame.
    • Jonan flour is a super-finely grained rice flour. You may be more familiar with a slightly less finely-grained rice flour called doumyouji-flour, used to make sakura-mochi (and the namesake of Doumyouji Tsukasa!)
    • Dango is generally a solid ball of mochi… the simplest traditional sweets.
    • Habutai-Shigure(羽二重時雨) is a type of steamed sweet. The “dough” is made by combining egg yolk and white bean paste (so it comes out a little dense), pressed into a mold and then steamed.
    • Boar mochi is only named because it resembles a boar. Normally it’s more brown, but the show chose to make it more pink to make it look cuter.
  • **Spoiler**: The child is sometimes referred to as “he” in the episode, but the show never reveals a gender, and nobody is assuming the gender. “He” is used as an universal gender in this case.
