• Salary talk. 15 million yen converts to about $103k, which is considered entry level tech salary in US, but is considered senior-level pay in Japan. On the other hand, 180 million yen converts to $1.2 mil and while that’s not unheard of for a highly sought-after engineer at a startup (for example, AI researchers at OpenAI), it’s usually not all in cash.
