Ishimura Osamu (played by Yagira Yuya) is studying nuclear physics at Kyoto Imperial University and they’re given a secret mission to develop the atomic bomb near the end of the war.
This is based on the true story of a group of young college kids who was part of the F-Go Project led by Arakatsu Bunsaku in Kyoto University and their race to develop the atomic bomb against the USA.
Note that there is a separate movie made about the same story with a different perspective, and is expected to release in 2021.
