No Side Game – Episode 6

The Platinum League season concludes with Astros coming in 2nd in the league. Now, there are decisions to be made. Which players will leave the team, and which players will join the team? Will Kimishima continue to be the GM, or will he take the offer to go back to the headquarters? Will the Astros continue to get funded for the next season?

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • “Ms. Hirata” is actually Yoshida Saori, a real gold-winning Olympic Japanese wrestler.
  • Unlike soccer, “forwards and backs” have opposite roles in rugby. Backs are the offensive players (much like quarterbacks and halfbacks in football) and forwards are the defensive players who can score points by pushing back in a scrum.
  • This drama is a bit weird because usually in sports, there is the season and the post-season. During the season, you play round-robin against every team in the league. During the post-season, the top few teams play against each other for the championship. Here, they seem to be suggesting that the championship team is whomever won the most games in a season, and there is no post-season playoffs.
  • Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium is named after Prince Chichibu who loved rugby and is the most famous rugby stadium in Japan.
