• As result of Tohoku Earthquake and the Fukushima meltdown in 2011, J-Village in Fukushima (located near the Pacific Coast) was shut down. They didn’t fully reopen until April 20, 2019.
• There’s a strong culture of making passive statements in Japanese, opposed to English where they encourage you to make active statements as much as possible. So where it’s common for American to say “You won” Japanese would say “I lost”. So instead of hearing “Congrats, you won. Good game” you’d hear “I lost. I’ll try harder next time.”
