My Family — Episode 10 END

Michiru is kidnapped! And Haruto must find Todo by 10AM the following day, and hand him over to the kidnapper. The grand finale to My Family.

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • METI stands for Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
  • Spoiler/Commentary:
    • Is Koharu dead? Yes, it’s implied through the shot of her falling down the stairs, and Yoshino saying that he could have “dumped Misaki somewhere (like he did with Koharu)”. Some people also claim that Todo’s wife showing up with dirty shoes implied she went to where Koharu was dumped, and that’s why her shoes were covered in mud.
    • Todo, this whole time, has been calling Koharu as Koharu-chan. Normally this is only done for young kids (under 5) or distant kids. Many people speculated that perhaps this implied Koharu wasn’t his real kid, but a stepchild. It’s explained in this episode that Todo has been living in the past, to when Koharu is still young, so his nickname for her didn’t change. Once he realized who the kidnapper is and he had a reality check, he started calling her Koharu instead of Koharu-chan.
    • I can’t believe Michiru is so skinny after having just given birth!
    • The group blind date is usually set up by the most junior person in the group–so in this case, Umeki. The blind date is still on, but Umeki figured it’s also a good chance for the police to apologize to Harukana.
    • Easter egg: Yoshino, in real life, is a comedian. He and his partner is a comedic duo called “Sandwich Man”. This is why they show Miwa and Kusakabe eating sandwiches.

For me, this has become the best dorama of 2022. Truly the combination of excellent writing, and top notch acting and direction. I’m so in awe of how the writer create intense suspense and mystery from episode 1 and never lost its pace, something that every thriller series should take note from.
