- There are a lot of police jargon used in the beginning, and a lot of text explaining the jargon. Sometimes, for ease of understanding, I’ve translated the jargon into layman terms so the supplementary on-screen text becomes redundant. Here is the jist of it:
- The kidnapping happened in Shichirigahama, Kanagawa. Therefore…
- L1 is the task force started at the Kanagawa Police HQ.
- L2 is the mobile task force
- Local HQ (“Gempon” in Japanese) refers to a task force formed at the local Shichirigahama Police Station
- Victim Support Team (“Marugai Taisaku”) is the team assembled at Narusawa’s house, meant to help the victim deal with the kidnapper.
- Then there are several bodyguards following the Narusawas
- Then there are agents on the ground. Scout agents scout the scene and assault agents follow up with firepower.
- Source of money: As far as I understand, Haruto didn’t actually liquidate his investments for the first 200 million. He simply borrowed against the investments at market rate. In this way, it’s showing that he didn’t take very big risks to get the first 200 million.
- In one scene, Miwa asks Michiru is she’s been losing money on stocks or currency exchange. This is because one way to make money is to make a series of short, quick currency exchanges hoping to sell yen high and buy yen low. In reality, this is not a very viable way to make money because the bank charges so much for foreign exchange fees.
- In one scene, you can see Haruto searching for web results on the NEX search engine. So you can assume NEX is a tech company similar to Google.
- Stickers are called seals in Japanese. That’s why Tomoka’s sticker book is called “seal notes”.
