Mada Kekkon Dekinai Otoko – Episode 10 END

It’s the finale! Madoka and Kuwano faces off at court battling over whether it’s human nature to want to living alone, versus living with someone else.

And of course, we get a satisfying closure on all the side stories– What happens between Kuwano and his construction manager? Between the 2 pugs? And their owners? And lastly… between Kuwano and the people around him?

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • There is a filming error in the court house scene. When Kuwano goes to sit down, you see Sakurako teleport to a seat one row behind where she was.
  • Japanese real estate is often measured in terms of -tsubo. 1 Tsubo is exactly one tatami (bamboo) mat size. Rooms were traditionally covered in tatami, and all tatami were the same size, so it made sense for room to be defined by number of tatami. 4.5-tsubo is approximately 80 sq ft, and potentially look like this.
  • Kagayaki is name of a bullet train line.

Commentary

This series, living up to its first series, was comedy gold. And the comedy didn’t all come from the lines, or acting. It came from all sources. It really needed the acting, the setting, and the character’s lines to all work together and the cast for this drama pulled it off perfectly.

Aside from living up to its comedic fame, it was a very well-written story. I always love a good, satisfying ending! And it conveyed a beautiful message, told through Kuwano’s personal growth. In the beginning, he was insistent that as people age, everyone will end up alone. Over the course of interacting with Madoka, he has learned that you don’t always have to be alone if you don’t want to. I think we can all keep that in mind as we get older. It’s never too late to forge new friendships and get into new relationships.
