Kimi no Hana ni Naru — Episode 1

Asuka Nakamachi had aspired to be a teacher that could bring positive influence to her students, but something derailed her dream and she ends up jobless and homeless. In a desperate attempt to rebuild her life, she applies to be a dorm matron to a group of aspiring idols… who are on the verge of getting cut from their talent management company. Can Asuka and 8LOOM turn their destiny around?

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • 8LOOM is a fictional band that got its own album release and TV appearances– check them out on youtube!
  • 8LOOM’s “Come Again” has been translated on TBS official youtube channel, but the English translation is so bad and done so carelessly that I had to make some changes.
  • Japanese trash days are one of the most complicated part of living in Japan. Not only do you separate by trash/recycle/yard waste, they also separate out cans, cardboard, and plastic for recycles. And every day, the city collects different type of trash, and they have to be bagged in city-approved trash bags that you buy from the city. And if you live in a single-family house, you can’t just take it to the curb. There are actually designated spots (with metal cages) around the neighborhood where you drop off your trash bags.
  • “A+”: In one scene, Asuka says she wants to give herself A+. In Japanese, she said she wants to give herself a “flower-mark” to keep in line with the flower motif. In Japanese schools, especially elementary school, teacher gives circles for good job and circle + flower petals (example) for a very good job, or what’s essentially an A+.
