Gokushufudo Episode 9

Kids in Himawari’s class are making fun of her for having a step-dad and telling her that her step-father doesn’t love her. When Miku hears of this, she enlists help from Masa to help prove to Himawari that Tatsu loves her very much… until the plan goes very wrong.

Translation Notes/Trivia

  • Language
    • “low budget movies” — In Japanese, they used the word “V-Cinema” to mean movies which were made for direct-to-video distribution only.
    • Iyokan is a type of citrus
    • “A security breach…” — In Japanese, they said the phrase “Your window to the society is open.”
    • “Headshot” — This was meant to be a pun because otama means a ladle, whereas tama is what gets translated as “headshot!”. Spread-copter is a reference to take-copter if you’ve seen Doraemon, except this one uses a crepe spreader.
    • Oiran is title used by women in the old days, one step above a prostitute.
  • Culture
    • As a public-transportation-centric country, the area around the train station is often filled with stores, department stores, and other places to hang out. In the episode, when they say Himawari was in front of the train station, it implies she was hanging out at stores.
    • Pythagora Switch is the name of a Japanese TV show where they showcase Pythagorean (Rube Goldberg) machines.
