Masa sets up Team Ayu to help prepare for Ayu’s debut on April 8th. He plans to spend 1 billion yen promoting her, through TV commercials, billboards, and music show appearances. However, no TV producer will agree to let a pre-released artist on their show.
Translation Notes/Trivia
- Cho-very-good and cho-very-bad (pronounced cho-beri-gu and cho-beri-ba) were popular slangs used by ko-gyaru back in the 90s. Cho means ‘super’ so it’s a Japanese/English combined slang.
- The 19th hole is a slang for the the bar or pub at the end of a golf course, since golf course only has 18 holes.
- Oricon chart is the national billboard ranking of Japan. Tip–If you ever want to hear the latest popular songs in Japan, search “oricon chart” in youtube.
- The snow song Ayu was singing on the rooftop is a Japanese nursery rhyme.
- According to the book, Ayu’s fax to Masa was signed with her real name(濱﨑 歩) instead of her stage name (浜崎あゆみ). They are both read as “Hamasaki Ayumi”. In the show, she didn’t have a different stage name, so the nuance was lost.
