Mikumo Hana is the daughter of a family of thieves–infamously known as the Lupin family, or the L family for short. Sakuraba Kazuma is the son of a family of police officers, and his family has always dreamed of him working as a detective in the First Investigative Unit of the Metropolitan Police. However, as fate would have it, Hana and Kazuma falls in love and decides to get married.
Translation Notes/Trivia
- Depachika(デパ地下) is short for “basement of department store”. In Japan, there are large department stores where the basement are always reserved for food court and grocery store. Toyoko is known for specifically targetting these high-end grocery store to pickpocket housewives.
- Nanban is a period of time in Japanese history where Portuguese missionaries traded with the Japanese people. The clock is a “nanban clock” meaning it was produced during this time period, and traded to Japanese people. For sake of understanding, this is translated as “western clock”.
- Nobunaga is the first daimyo of Japan to have unified all the different clans into one country.
- Reference: Notice in the beginning, when Takeru comes home, he’s carrying an “Under Eats” bag instead of “Uber Eats” bag.
- Hikikomori is a shut-in, or someone who has too much social anxiety to leave the house.
- When Wataru is in his room, claiming to be “working”, he’s actually checking out online dating profiles and “liking” girls that are attractive. Hopefully that was pretty obvious.
- The “actor” for Hana is Fukada Kyoko’s good friend and a famous Japanese Olympic gold metal wrestler, Yoshida Saori. Of course, she did her own stunt scenes.
- Nisetai-juutaku (二世帯住宅) is how the L family refers to their arrangement of 2 families living under one roof. It’s very common in Japan, often with houses designed to have 2 doors and 2 separate living areas, connected by a single door. It’s not unheard of in America either. The second living area is often called mother-in-law house.
